Breaking the Guinness World Record for the Largest Laser Show
Some shows are big.
Others redefine what is possible.
At Verknipt Arena, history was made when the Guinness World Record for the largest laser show was officially broken — with an unprecedented 1,100 lasers operating simultaneously. A milestone that was never just about scale, but about ambition, collaboration and pushing the limits of live show design.
The Vision Behind the Record
The project originated when Verknipt and Insomniac Europe joined forces to create a truly standout arena show. With the ambition to raise the bar, they were looking for show designers capable of translating scale into impact.
Technical producer Maarten Hoogland had already developed a strong stage and set design. As the number of lasers in the setup became clear, the idea emerged naturally: this could be a world record moment.
At that point, 360 Show Design was brought in to lead show creation and show design, shaping the creative narrative and turning the record attempt into a cohesive, immersive experience.

A Technical Challenge Without Precedent
Programming, visualizing and controlling 1,100 lasers at once quickly proved to be a challenge beyond the limits of current technology. Existing tools and workflows were simply not designed for this level of complexity at full scale.
There was no blueprint.
To make the project feasible, the show had to be broken down into separate segments. By approaching the system modularly — both creatively and technically — each section could be programmed, tested and refined individually before being combined into one unified laser composition.
It was a constant balance between creative ambition and technical reality.

Acknowledging the Pioneers Behind the Lasers
A project of this magnitude would not have been possible without the decades of innovation behind it. LaserImage, led by Hugo Bunk, has been pushing the boundaries of laser show design for generations — laying the foundation on which projects like this can exist at all.
Their deep technical knowledge, relentless experimentation and commitment to evolving the craft of laser design were essential to bringing this world record to life. A special acknowledgment goes to Hugo, Stephan, Jeroen, Kappa, Ensar, and the entire LaserImage team for their dedication, expertise and trust throughout this process.
This achievement stands not only as a record, but as a testament to what long-term vision and collaboration can make possible.

Beyond the Record
The outcome exceeded expectations.
The Guinness World Record was officially achieved, and the show reached a global audience on a scale we had never experienced before.
More importantly, it demonstrated what becomes possible when creative vision, technical innovation and collective commitment align.
Verknipt Arena stands as a testament to what can be achieved when limits are challenged — and when teams dare to design beyond existing systems.
A historic moment.
A powerful collaboration.
And a project we are incredibly proud to have been part of.
