A Festival Design Journey with Entourage & 360 Show Design
Só Track Boa stands as the pinnacle of Brazilian electronic music festivals. Created by Brazilians for Brazilians, it celebrates the vibrancy of Brazilian festive culture and embodies the true Brazilian party spirit. Originally spearheaded by Vintage Culture, Só Track Boa has evolved into a landmark for the Brazilian electronic music scene. The festival seamlessly blends genres such as Deep House and Techno with the local Funk genre, creating a unique experience for the local scene.
The OCA stage design was a center piece of Só Track Boa 2024. The STB team briefed us to create a contemporary version of an oca—a central gathering place for indigenous tribes to share wisdom and celebrate together. For us, the beauty of this project lay not in designing just a stage, but in creating an immersive world for the audience. Upon seeing Pieter’s initial sketch, we immediately envisioned a light design that complemented the geometric nature of his concept. This setup allowed us to craft incredible and visually stunning looks, all focused on the audience and the dance floor.
Entourage – making off OCA
Great ideas often surpass expectations in real life, and the OCA stage was a prime example of this phenomenon. While it is challenging to foresee all possibilities with a stage design upfront, the OCA exceeded our wildest imaginations. The stage became a dynamic and immersive environment that captivated and engaged the audience in ways we hadn’t fully anticipated. It was a testament to the power of collaborative creativity and the magic of live experiences.
Another stage we designed was the ‘Luvlab,’ loosely inspired by the famous ‘Roda da Samba’—tables around which samba musicians gather to build the atmosphere with their audience. We designed a setup where the crowd enveloped the DJs, becoming part of the world they were in. This stage operated as a melting pot for musical experiments and, despite being the smallest stage, it was at the cutting edge of Brazil’s electronic avant-garde. The Luvlab fostered an intimate and experimental environment that build on local trends in music.
Our elite Grand Finale team orchestrated several key moments on both the ‘Never Stop Dancing’ mainstage (NSD) and the OCA. The NSD moments were highlighted with synchronized pyrotechnics, lights, lasers, and visuals, creating breathtaking spectacles. The closing of the OCA was an emotional final encounter with the STB audience, composed to Artbat’s rendition of Kolsch’s “All That Matters.” This moment captured the essence of the festival, forming a vortex of beams and emotions in the air, while the last beats drifted off.
It was our first time working in Brazil, but it certainly won’t be the last. Collaborating with the passionate and dedicated local team was a pleasure, and we look forward to many more projects together.
