The leading festival in Switzerland
Zurich Open Air (ZOA) is a leading festival in Switzerland, bringing together pop acts, indie bands, and major DJ performances over five days of celebration. For its 10th anniversary, the organizers sought to elevate the festival experience and turned to 360 Show Design for a complete transformation. With the creative leadership of Mark Rietveld and Pieter Truijen, 360 Show Design provided comprehensive services for ZOA, including concept development, campaign design, key visuals, stage design, brand activations, and show design.
Creating a New and Vibrant Festival Look
The process of crafting a fresh and vibrant festival look began with a collaboration with UK street artists Art & Believe. Together, we developed an exciting and colorful campaign for this year’s edition of Zurich Open Air. Working with Dan and Charlotte was an absolute joy, as their unique style added a new dimension to the ZOA concept. The poster and logo treatment they created set the tone for an energetic and visually captivating festival experience, promising a memorable celebration for the 10th anniversary.
Elevating the Festival Experience with Innovative Design
Pieter Truijen worked closely with ZOA’s Rolf Ronner and Mark Irniger to elevate the festival experience from the usual ‘black box band setup’ to a more immersive and decorated arena look. This transformation was made possible through incredible engineering on the layher construction, which spanned over 22 meters above the performance area. The collaboration was special, as it pushed the boundaries of traditional festival design, creating a unique and engaging environment for festival-goers.
The Anniversary Show: A Memorable Celebration
To mark ZOA’s 10th anniversary, a custom show moment was designed that ventured across different genres, creating an epic and memorable celebration. Every element of the show, from lights and lasers to visuals and SFX, was meticulously synchronized. Despite the prohibition of aerial pyro effects due to sustained dry conditions in Switzerland, the ‘Anniversary Show’ still delivered a captivating experience. The attached show renders give a glimpse of the dazzling light and visual spectacle we created.
Working on this project with Rolf Ronner, Yannick Egli, and Alexander Weislein was a pleasure. Seeing the audience’s enthusiastic response to our work made all the effort worthwhile. Zurich Open Air 2022 was not just a festival; it was a celebration of a decade of music, creativity, and magical moments.
